What can go wrong

Icons and wallpaper change. Your apps and layout stay. Revert in the launcher settings or by picking the old wallpaper.

An icon pack reskins every app at once, and the wallpaper sets the mood. Each pack is a new phone. No box, no queue, no trade-in.

Before you start

  • A launcher that supports icon packs (Nova, Lawnchair, Kvaesitso; Niagara with some packs).
  • An icon pack installed. TODO: name one open-source pack that is in the catalog after the first F-Droid ingest (Arcticons is the usual pick; confirm the package id from index-v2, do not guess).
  1. Step 1 of 7

    Install an icon pack.

Get the pack from F-Droid or the developer's site, the same way you install any app. It will not apply itself.

  2. Step 2 of 7

    Open your launcher's settings.

Long-press the home screen and open Home settings or Appearance. TODO: exact menu names per launcher need a device check.

  3. Step 3 of 7

    Apply the pack.

Tap Icon pack and pick the one you installed. The grid updates in a few seconds.

  4. Step 4 of 7

Pick a shape, if you want one.

Some launchers let you force circles, squircles or a squircle-with-shadow. Optional.

  5. Step 5 of 7

    Set the wallpaper.

Long-press the home screen, tap Wallpapers, pick one of yours. TODO: confirm path on Pixel 8 and Samsung S24.

  6. Step 6 of 7

    Match the colours, or don't.

If the launcher can pull an accent from the wallpaper, try it once. If you hate it, turn it off.

  7. Step 7 of 7

Live with it for a day.

Mono on Monday. Colour by Friday. Change your mind then, not now. ## Undo it Icon pack: System. Wallpaper: pick the previous photo in Wallpapers. ## Next guides Draw your own widgets, or replace the gallery so the photos match the new look.
